American Idol: Michelle Sussett Sings Fun Cover Of Selena’s ‘Techno Cumbia’ To Go On To Hollywood

Michelle Sussett delivered a fun performance of Selena’s “Techno Cumbia” for her American Idol audition in front of Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Sussett is no stranger to music competitions. In 2015, she won $5,000 after winning the Ultimate Miami Voice contest. On social media, she wrote that she bought herself a car with the prize money and gave the rest to her mother.

Sussett came to the United States with her family in July of 2014 in the midst of the humanitarian crisis in her native Caracas. Her hopes for a better life and jump-starting her music career inspired her to audition for American Idol in 2016 with no luck. Sussett says she learned English during her first few months here and started working in area restaurants to make ends meet.

Her audition is a memorable one as she wears a black “Rebel” t-shirt, white short-shorts, and knee-high velvet boots. Michelle’s boots weren’t just made for walkin’ but dancin’ too. Both Perry and Richie join her on stage to dance with her. Michelle’s energy level is through the roof
